A woman who falsely accused a man of raping her has been warned by a judge she could go to jail for up to two years.

Amanda Moyse, 42, appeared at Truro Crown Court yesterday where she admitted perverting the course of justice by making a false allegation of rape between September 21 and November 16 last year.

Moyse, of Lemon Street, Truro wept throughout the brief hearing and spoke only to confirm her name.

The court heard she had suffered from depression and psychosis for many years.

Mr Recorder Edward Burgess said the Court of Appeal had recently said a sentence of two years was "often not unmerited" for such an offence.

He added: "It's obvious having read the pre-sentence report that there a number of matters the sentencing court needs to know about and for that we need a report from your psychiatrist, which may help you and help the judge who sentences you."

Moyse was given unconditional bail until March 17.
