South Brent Riding Club were "thrilled" to finish third against nine other teams at the final of the British Riding Club endurance championships, held during the Red Dragon festival of endurance at the Royal Welsh show ground in Builth Well, Wales.

The team of Mary Brown (Riversdale Edward), Rita Bull (Vlacq Aiwen) and Jackie Parrott (Billy Boy), and Lisa Parrott as the all important crew, qualified as a team down at Bocconoc in Cornwall in July. By coming first in their league they automatically went through to the final.

"This was our first Red Dragon ride and only the second time we had ridden together as a team so for us it was a huge success," said a delighted Mary, who noted the team gained two grade ones and a grade two.

"We set off on Saturday with horses and camping gear expecting it to be cold wet and windy but it was nothing of the sort," added Mary. "The weather was good and high on the hills it was warm and sunny, you could actually look down on the clouds lying in the valley. The ride itself and the scenery was fantastic, long high hills of course but they held no fear for us Devonians!"

Mary reported that up on the top it was flat and grassy for miles allowing them to set a fast pace and complete the route in two hours 55 minutes giving them an average speed of 12.34kph.

"Everyone we met was kind and helpful and we had just the most fabulous weekend," she enthused.
