A yachtsman has been rescued from his boat after being dragged down river by storm force winds in Dartmouth Harbour.

The man called the coastguard for help when the 46ft yacht Sea Brigand was being pulled from Dart Haven Marina after its foresail became unfurled and caught in storm force winds of up to 50 knots. Torbay lifeboat went out just after midnight on Friday to tow the yacht to a visitors' pontoon. The yachtsman, who had anchored in the Dart after sailing single-handed from Ireland, was helped to control the sail by the Dart inshore lifeboat.
