A woman has died after she was in collision with a car in Somerset.

The woman, who was in her forties and has not yet been named, collided with the silver Ford Fiesta just before 9am yesterday.

The incident took place on Stourton Way in Yeovil.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "The woman, who was in her forties and from the local area, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Her next of kin have been informed, and an investigation into the collision has begun."

Stourton Way was closed until about 3pm, to enable officers to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Anyone who saw the collision, or has information which could help the investigation, is asked to calll the Collision Investigation Unit on the force non-emergency number 101.
