Woman airlifted to hospital after car overturns on M5

By EGaskarth  |  Posted: September 17, 2012

A woman was airlifted to hospital after her car overturned on the M5, causing long tailbacks.

Traffic faced delays of at least two hours after the black Vauxhall Corsa hit the central reservation between junctions 27 and 28 on the southbound carriageway shortly after noon yesterday.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Two other passengers managed to get out of the vehicle uninjured before the emergency services arrived.

The police helicopter from Middlemoor in Exeter attended, along with four fire crews, who used specialist hydraulic equipment to stabilise the vehicle and cut the casualty free.

She was taken to hospital via helicopter with suspected spinal and neck injuries which were not thought to be life-threatening.
