Northernhay Gardens, Exeter, various days

This is a highlight of Exeter's summer cultural calendar; over consecutive nights next week there are four very different movies to be savoured al fresco on a 10m screen in the city centre, with the illuminated cathedral as a backdrop. This year's classic is The Goonies (PG), from 1985, showing on Wednesday, while last year's Bond film Skyfall (12A) is on Thursday. Friday's treat is Ang Lee's Life of Pi (PG), a visual masterpiece bringing the unforgettable magic of Yann Martel's Booker Prize novel to life. And bringing things right up to date next Saturday is The Great Gatsby (12A). Screenings take place in Northernhay Gardens. Gates open at 7.30pm, films start at 9pm. Tickets £3 and there will be street food vendors as well as a cocktail caravan.
