Torbay and District Trades Union Council would like to pay tribute to Bob Crow, general secretary of the RMT union.

We believe Mr Crow was a real man of the people who showed, even in a time of austerity, that negotiating skills can bring union members higher pay and better working conditions.

In a country that is sadly lacking in politicians of real steel and strength to put out the message to the masses, Mr Crow managed to be a dynamic leader of his union and have the respect of politicians and employers alike.

He will be sadly missed by all trade unionists. He recently attended an anniversary and re-launch of Exeter Trades Union Council and his links to the union movement spanned the Westcountry in many ways.

As a trades council we thank Mr Crow for showing trades unions are as relevant today as they were in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. He will be sadly missed but warmly remembered.
