FEARS Barnstaple's two Argos stores could be closing have been downplayed by the retail giant.
News broke on Wednesday morning the retail chain would be closing 75 of its stores. It has more than 700 nationally.
A spokesman for the company could not confirm whether the Barnstaple High Street or Rose Lane stores would be affected but said if they were to be affected it wouldn't happen imminently.
"This plan will see 75 stores close or be relocated over five years," they said. "Stores will be looked at on an individual basis and only those where the lease is up will be closed.
"This won't be happening imminently and we will be looking to close ten stores each year."
