A BARNSTAPLE petrol station was closed on Sunday morning after a car drove into one of the pumps knocking it over.

Sainsbury's petrol station at Roundswell closed just after 10.30am.

A fire crew from Barnstaple attended the scene as a precautionary measure but left after ensuring the petrol pumps had automatically shut down.

It is believed no one was injured during the incident.

Staff at Sainsbury's then took measures to ensure it was safe to reopen the station. The broken pump is awaiting maintenance.

Can only have been an elderly driver who couldn't see where they were going. Not the first time and won't be the last.

Perhaps it was a personal protest over the rip off price charged for fuel in the UK?
