An elderly woman has died following a serious collision with a car in Exeter.

A silver Peugeot 206 collided with a woman in her late 80s yesterday, leaving her with serious head injuries, say police.

An ambulance arrived at the scene and paramedics found her unconscious but breathing.

She was been taken to The Royal Devon & Exeter Hopsital by ambulance and then flown to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

The 87-year-old woman from Exeter died at Derriford this morning.

Formal identification has yet to take place. She was from Exeter.

Police closed Pinhoe Road between Hamelin Lane and Polsloe Bridge at 9:45am yesterday.

The road was reopened at 4:20pm.
