Police are appealing for information after a cat was found dead, in Burns Avenue, Wonford.

Between 7.30pm on Saturday 8th September and 8am on Sunday 9th September the body of a beheaded and part skinned cat was dumped in a front garden in Burns Avenue. The cat was also soaking wet and had possibly been drowned before being mutilated or dunked in water afterwards.

PC Chris HOGG said: "The owners of the cat from Shakespeare Avenue are extremely distressed by this sick and horrible act and police are appealing for anyone with information in relation to this incident to please tell us via 101 quoting crime reference number DE/12/8876 or in total confidence and anonymously via CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111.

"I am aware of other reports that other cats have gone missing recently so I would urge anyone who knows whom has done this, or have any information, to tell us to prevent further acts of horrid cruelty to animals, and if anyone locates dead animals similar to this crime please tell us via 101."

The RSPCA have been informed.

People who can perform such sadistic and vile acts are also capable of treating humans in the same way. When they are found - and hopefully they will be - they should be investigated in relation to any other outstanding violent crimes in the city.
