LEWIS JOCE is awake and in a stable condition in hospital after collapsing during a Barnstaple second-team rugby match on Saturday afternoon.
The 19-year-old front-row forward was playing for the Development XV in their away fixture against Tiverton when he collapsed after five minutes of the game.
Lewis, known as Jumbo to his team mates, collapsed moments before taking his place in a scrum.
He was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital by the Devon Air Ambulance where he was placed in an induced coma.
There were serious fears for Lewis, whose heart stopped for some time, but he was woken from his coma this morning and is understood to be in a stable and "sleepy" condition.
Lewis, who also stopped breathing, has had heart and brain scans to try and uncover the reason behind his collapse.
