REGGAE chart-toppers UB40 and Aswad are part of a star-studded line-up at a new open-air music festival being staged in Paignton in June.
Soul II Soul and Heatwave will also appear at the event on Paignton Green on June 14 and 15.
The Party By The Seaside is the brainchild of Richard Hunt, who is also the organiser of the Plant and Waste Recycling Show, which will be on the Green immediately before the music festival.
He said: “I took that show over from the Institute of Wastes Management several years ago because I’ve been coming down to Torbay for 27 years and I didn’t want to move anything out of the bay.
“It’s always a great atmosphere down there, and the Party By The Seaside will be a way of keeping our members in town over the weekend, extending the event and having a bit of fun.
“But it’s not just for our members. It’s open to everyone. Our priority is for the local people, and it’s going to be a lot of fun.
“If we could get 5,000 people on the Green each day, it would generate a vast amount of money for the local hotels. Everybody wins.”
UB40 enjoyed a string of hits in the Eighties including number ones Red Red Wine and I Got You Babe, while Aswad topped the charts with Don’t Turn Around.
Soul II Soul hit number one with Back To Life while Heatwave’s Boogie Nights was their biggest hit.
