Students and staff at a college in North Devon have been treated to cultural, musical experience from Africa.

The Pearl of Africa Children's Choir, from Uganda, is touring the UK giving performances in schools and at private events to raise awareness and improve the health, education and welfare of Ugandans suffering through disease, war and poverty.

The choir visited Shebbear College last week. Its members spent the whole day at the school giving workshops for pupils.

"The children were able to experience the colourful traditional clothing, music and culture of Uganda," a spokesman for the college said.

"They learnt about a typical school day, how to count and sing in Ugandan, and were shown dance moves.

The choir is in Cornwall this week, performing at Launceston Town Hall tonight and Budehaven Community School, at Bude, on Friday.
