Truro City have earned extra time to remain in the Blue Square Bet South.

Football Conference general manager Denis Strudwick issued a statement on behalf of the league's directors yesterday afternoon – following an emergency board meeting – which has given the Cornish club's administrators until next Thursday at 5pm to strike a deal with a potential purchaser.

If that happens then Truro's Blue Square Bet South future may be resurrected at the 11th hour. Strudwick yesterday said the board had received "encouraging" information from the administrators.

This led to the Conference board of directors calling an emergency meeting and – ultimately – the granting of more time to secure the crisis club's future.

Lee Hodges' City side were due to face Dover Athletic at Treyew Road today but that match was postponed early on Thursday evening.

The statement said: "To avoid the visiting club from incurring any unnecessary expense, and consuming much time, Saturday's fixture was postponed at 6.30pm on Thursday, well before Dover Athletic FC was due to commence its journey.

"In respect of Truro City FC's membership of the competition, the board has received encouraging information from the administrator about a potential buyer of the club.

"This opportunity did not come to light until Wednesday evening so it was not possible for the administrator to complete a purchase before close of business on Thursday."

If the club fails to meet this deadline of 5pm on Thursday, October 18, "the [Football Conference] board will be obliged to consider the club's further participation in the competition".
