RISING cross-country running star Josh Trigwell is aiming to break the nine-minute barrier in a 3000m race at Exeter Arena this week.

Trigwell, who is 17 and from Kingskerswell, is running in the last race of the Ironbridge Runner 3k Winter Series and is hoping to complete the double by winning both the U20 and senior titles.

The South Devon College sports student won a county title recently at the South West Schools Championships in Yeovil, and will now lead the Devon senior boys' school team in the Nottingham finals later this month.

Trigwell is also leading the Devon U20s cross country team at the UK Inter Counties Cross Country Championships and World Trials next month in Birmingham.

Exeter Harriers runner Trigwell is currently ranked in the top 150 U20 athletes in the UK and is aiming to be much higher this year.

"My ranking is dropping all the time, and if I do as well as I know I can in the next few months I hope to break into the top 20 by the end of the summer," said Josh.

"I've been training hard and am confident I can break nine minutes in Exeter and win the series trophy."
