A TREE has crashed into a Plymouth house bringing down power lines and cutting the supply to nearby homes.

Emergency services were sent to Back Lane, Plympton St Maurice at 2.30am today.

One fire appliance from Plympton and one from Crownhill were mobilised to reports of a telegraph pole fallen onto a house.

Upon arrival crews found a tree had fallen onto the roof of a private property which had affected electricity cables.

Police say there was a large hole in the roof of the cottage.

The electricity was isolated and Western Power reinstated power to 54 other properties.

The incident follows another day of heavy rain after weeks of high-winds and wet weather.

Power was brought back on after about five hours.
