A Westcountry GP who is helping lead the transformation of the NHS has been recognised as one of the most influential GPs in the country.
Commended for her work in commissioning, Dr Sam Barrell was selected from a list of hundreds of GPs in England to be named in the top 50 GPs 2012 on the list, compiled by medical journal PULSE.
As well as her commissioning work, the panel of medical professionals praised her work as a practising GP and said she was an "up-and-coming" individual who should be considered as one of the most influential people shaping the future of the health service and Government policy.
Dr Barrell, of the Compass House surgery in Brixham, is accountable officer for South Devon and Torbay Clinical Commissioning Group and said she was "thrilled".
"However it has been a huge team effort from clinicians and managers locally to build relations across the whole healthcare system in order to implement our vision of joined-up patient-centred care."
