Theatre plea

WHEN Plymouth's Athenaeum Theatre closed just over 12 months ago for public performances there were lots of letters in the local press, then everything went quiet. The theatre is still closed, and we have no comment from Plymouth City Council.

A petition has been started on a new website to try to get the theatre reopened before it gets pulled down.

This is an opportunity for residents of Plymouth and surrounding areas to show the city council that this asset is still required.

Go to the website ipetitions.com then, under search, enter petition title 'athenaeumtheatre'.

Please spread the word about this petition — and if you do not have internet access, please lobby Plymouth councillors.

Given this letter was written in 2010 and three years later, nobody has responded, let alone signed a petition, I think that speaks volumes about the (non) future of the jaded and out of date Plymouth Athenaeum.
