It is suspected that three cars found on fire in Redruth early this morning were deliberately set alight.

Fire engines from Redruth and Camborne stations attended the car fires on the Penhale Estate, Redruth, at around 2am.

Upon arrival, the firefighters found all three cars well ablaze.

A spokesman for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used high pressure hosereels to extinguish the fires.”

Arson is suspected and Devon and Cornwall Police will be making further enquiries.

Cornwall Council suggest that measures such as parking in a safe place, locking vehicles, using steering wheel locks and not leaving expensive items on display can help reduce the risk of arson or theft.

I only hope these lunatics who seem to get something out of destroying things get something resembling real punishment from our over lenient courts if caught.
