Stop-and-search death referred to watchdog

The death of a 62-year-old man during a stop-and-search by officers in Plymouth has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). The man, who has not been named, was stopped in Wolseley Road shortly before 3pm on Thursday. A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said that "during this contact the man collapsed and officers carried out CPR on him" adding that he was taken to hospital but pronounced dead at 4.17pm. The spokesman said the incident was referred to the IPCC and the police actions will be reviewed.
