Devon is one of the best places in the UK to buy a holiday home; surf-washed bays, spectacular clifftop views and a landscape that’s home to Dartmoor National Park – the biggest area of pure countryside in Southern Britain. Could South Beach Café be the icing on the cliff?

South Beach Café is exclusive to anyone staying at Devon Cliffs holiday park near Exmouth. Overlooking a sandy cove, this laidback café is the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee – any time of the day. Still, this café has much more to it than a beach view and a fresh cuppa…let’s start with the food:

Tasty local dishes…

Every ingredient the head chef uses to create the ever-changing South Beach Café menu, is sourced from Devonshire farmers and fisherman. All the food is made fresh on the day – even the sauces. The seasoned crab you’re tucking into for dinner, was likely caught while you were enjoying your locally-farmed eggs at breakfast.

You can taste the passion for fresh food at this café – try the homemade beef burgers, made from Burrow Farm’s freshly cut meat, and you’ll want to take the recipe back home. Wash it down with a real ale, also been brewed in the area (the gift shop actually sells some of these hoppy beers, so you can take a taste of Devon back home with you).

Fresh interior design…

The bar is made from natural wood and fits nicely with the seaside theme of the café. As do the barrel booths and tables on the inside. It a fun place to eat but it has class too – seafood lovers can choose a fish from the fresh selection stocked in the ice display at the bar or enjoy a giant crab served on a thick wooden chopping board.

Cool outdoor decking…

Step out onto the bamboo-covered walkway (with heaters for chillier nights) and look out along the Jurassic Coast or out to sea. Hop down a tier and take a seat at your table – tucked in a stone corner, shielded from the wind. The lower level has comfy cushions built into the brickwork, which you can use to sit back and soak up the view.

When the sun is shining, this outer deck is one of the nicest places to enjoy a meal in the entire UK.

For the kids…

There’s a beach-themed playground for the little ones and a sandy sun lounging space for the adults nearby. A footpath slopes down to the bay beneath the café, where you can play volleyball, skim stones from the rocks, skip over the rolling waves or build a sandcastle big enough to spot from the decking – do what you like, it’s your hidden holiday spot if you own a caravan at Devon Cliffs.

Buying a caravan…

Always keep an eye out for static caravans for sale in Devon this time of year. Buying a second home here not only gets you access to South Beach Café, the infinite amount of sandy beaches, the stunning seaside views, the huge green countryside and some of the hottest weather in the UK – it can even make you some money by renting the caravan out between stays.
