Somerset Chamber of Commerce has announced that its sixth Somerset in Business Conference will take place on June 5.

The event, Developing the Workforce for Somerset, will be held at the Junction 24 conference centre in Bridgwater. It will address the challenges and issues faced by firms in securing workplace-ready candidates with the skills they need to perpetuate and grow their business.

The conference will be split into three sessions: Inspiring Young People in the Workplace, Higher Level Skills for Business and Skilling the Hinkley Workforce. Speakers will include representatives from businesses and colleges across the county.

One-to-one surgeries will be held in the afternoon with the Hinkley Supply Chain, National Apprenticeship Service, Somerset Chamber of Commerce and SWMAS.

Chamber chair Graham Knight, who is head of business development at Strode College in Street, said: “The need for a skilled workforce is compelling: it improves profitability, productivity, saves costs, and of course leads to more satisfied customers. This conference addresses the issues around acquiring those skills.”
