A woman was mowed down by her friend's car - while they both searched for the same missing cat.

Gemma White, 30, and pal Stephanie Lake, 33, were trying to find the owners of the stray pet by knocking on doors in their neighbourhood.

But the mischievous moggy suddenly bolted and Stephanie gave chase on foot while Gemma jumped behind the wheel of her car.

Eventually Stephanie spotted the mischievous moggy and ran out into the road - where she was hit by Gemma's passing car.

Luckily Stephanie suffered only minor cuts and bruises in the collision in Plymouth, Devon.

Care assistant Gemma said: "I was driving around a corner when Steph ran out onto the road as she had spotted the cat.

"She didn't see me and got in the way of the car, but thankfully she was okay."

Stephanie added: "I went round one way to look for it while Gemma got in her car to go the other way.

"But we ended up bumping into each other and I went flying.

"We were more concerned with looking for the cat than what each other were doing.

"We want to do an appeal to get the cat back to where it belongs. It keeps coming to the house but then running away scared."
