Sarah Collins one to watch in mares' race at Newton Abbot

My Legal Lady was disqualified from first place at Newton Abbot back in May, and connections will be hoping for a turn around in fortunes at the course today when she lines up in the two miles three furlongs mares' novices hurdle race.

Sarah Collins could be the one to lead the field home, though. She started favourite at Worcester in August in a two-mile maiden hurdle, when a mistake at the third last probably did not help when she lost momentum.

Another to consider is Tweedledrum, who may have had one race too many when she pulled up at Stratford in April. She has had a break since then, which may bring about a resurgence in form.

A lightly raced course-and-distance winner, Merrion Chase may start the favourite in the novices chase, but Christopher Wren looks interesting on his chasing debut with AP McCoy on board.

With Fergal O'Brien in such good form, there will be plenty of interest in Kilmacowen in the two miles six furlongs novices hurdle. He was odds-on at Fakenham in May, when he finished third, and could well improve. Next Exit has plenty to find on official ratings, but could be the one to take him on.

O'Brien saddles another likely candidate in the two miles five furlongs handicap chase, with Allerton an interesting runner now he is tried over hurdles.

Royale Knight is also interesting. He has won a couple of point-to-points this year and, now the penny appears to have dropped over obstacles, having been previously unsuccessful under rules, he could go well.

Six runners go to post in the long-distance handicap chase and all have valid claims.

The Peter Bowen-trained Ballybough Gorta has won four of his five starts over fences and can add to the tally while the prolific point-to-pointer Come What Augustus, trained by Richard Woollacott, won over course and distance last month and could follow up.

Bernard Llewellyn saddles two in the seller, with Rime Avec Gentil likely to start favourite on the back of his win at the course two weeks ago.

Stable-mate Going Nowhere Fast could also go well. He has not been seen for more than a year, since he was beaten four and a half lengths at Hereford.

Concluding the card is a two miles six furlongs handicap hurdle and Minella Ranger, who has been well beaten in all his starts, could creep into it, while a step up in trip for A Nun With A Gun could see her get her nose in front again.
