A hunt for a rapist is under way after a woman on her way home from a Cornish nightclub was brutally attacked.
The 25-year-old victim was walking home from the Twilight Zone club in Redruth at 3.20am on Sunday, September 23, when she was assaulted.
The crime was reported a short time later but police yesterday released details for the first time in a bid to encourage witnesses to come forward.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Pete Simms urged anyone who saw the "visibly shaken" woman to get in touch.
"The woman had marks on her and she would have been dishevelled and upset.
"I think most people would have realised there was something wrong and we want these people to come forward."
The victim had been drinking with friends in the town before going on to the club. She decided to call it a night at around 3.20am and made her way home on foot.
She is said to have headed towards Tesco car park in Tolgus Hill and met a group of men and women, briefly speaking to them. It is thought there was an argument going on within the group.
She then walked through an alleyway connecting the Tesco car park and adjacent school grounds where the attack took place.
DI Simms said the distressed, shocked victim staggered back towards the Tesco car park and then home, where relatives contacted police.
He said the car park would have been busy as it was a usual gathering area for people leaving the club and taxis picking them up.
"We are asking anyone with information, no matter how small they think it is, to get in touch."
