Primary school pupils in Devon are aiming to top the charts with the release of their new single.

Exminster Primary School band Six to One released their second single Night Sky last week following an Olympic-inspired song called The Countdown 2012.

The seven pupils from the school, near Exeter, all aged nine or ten, had to audition to make the new band in an X Factor-style talent contest.

The band includes Years Five and Six pupils Lilly-Mae Peverick and Jesse Dunster on vocals and Ellie Parfitt and Erin Clarke on guitar.

On keyboard is Ameie Vickery, Sam Pestridge is on bass and Molly Godbeer plays the drums.

After writing their song with teacher Kit Hardee, the pupils visited a recording studios in Exeter to produce the single version.

Mr Hardee said: "Within a term we have written a new song, recorded it and now we are ready to perform it."

He added: "Music brings out lots of creativity and allows the children to express themselves, which really develops their confidence."

The band is now putting together a music video to accompany their single which can be downloaded online.
