A sale of exotic Victorian pop culture pottery is due to go under the hammer in Devon tomorrow.

Staffordshire portrait figures including royalty, opera stars, Crimean war heroes, actors, and lion wrestlers are among the 2,000 ceramics.

Auctioneer Nic Saintey said the 350-lot auction is expected to raise about £70,000 – but may reach six figures.

The collection was left in the estate of Torbay-based antique dealer Paul Stockman and the money raised will go to both local and national charities.

Nic, of Exeter-based Bearnes, Hampton and Littlewood, said there was a huge amount of international interest in the sale.

He said: "This is a collection of Victorian social history. Paul Stockman and his wife were very private individuals, very enigmatic and shrewd. He was the face of the antiques business which operated between the 1970s and 1990s.

The sale is being held tomorrow in Honiton.
