At about 1:40pm on Sunday the Devon and Cornwall Police helicopter deployed to search for a missing man in a vehicle in the Teignbridge area, whose welfare was of immediate concern.

Based on information available, the crew of the helicopter searched from Newton Abbot towards Bovey Tracey before redirecting their search based on new information to the Hay Tor area of Dartmoor. The crew quickly located the vehicle and using the on board equipment was able to confirm the man was in the vehicle. The crew directed the ground officers to the vehicle who then looked after the man's welfare.

The Force helicopter can search large open areas very quickly, approximately 1 square mile every 12 minutes including areas which are inaccessible to or unsafe to search by officers on the ground.
