A police dog was called in to search for people potentially injured in a car crash in Torquay.

Police units were alerted at 8pm on Saturday after a red Rover 25 overturned and ended up on its roof in Beechfield Avenue in Barton.

Part of the road was closed while police looked for any occupants.

A police spokesman said: "We do not know if anybody was hurt because whoever was in the vehicle has run off. We have done a track with a police dog but have not been able to locate anybody.

"We are happy that nobody is close by.

"We will be making inquiries with the registered keeper to see if it has been stolen."

The car was loaded on to a trailer and the crash scene was being cleared.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
