A Man has claimed responsibility for painting over Paignton's iconic Milk Bottle, and leaving a severed pigs head outside a branch of McDonalds.

A Facebook page by user Itchier Itch claims responsibility for both acts, and he has uploaded photos to prove it.

The pigs head was left outside Paignton McDonalds last week, complete with a hook in its head, leaving staff distressed.

The Milk Bottle, which represented Loncombe Dairy at the site since 1902, was painted over without the owners permission on Monday night.

The Coca Cola bottle has split residents, with some seeing it as a welcome act of art, and other nothing more than vandalism.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said that neither incidents had been reported to them.

Itchier Itch posted: "To those of you who this may of offended, I will be returning the milk bottle to normal after Christmas."

He added: "After seeing some reactions, I feel it's important to add that this wasn't the original milk bottle, the old bottle was in fact made of wood. It was burnt to charcoal in 1997, a local builder castes this one out of concrete, it hasn't been painted for a long time, as a result the paint was chipping. No sweat."

The bottle was in fact replaced in 1997 after an arson attack, it was also made fire proof. The bottle has been repainted since 1997 and is a fond favorite among locals for helping people with directions.

The bottle and the building is owned by charity Kidzade.

Manager Claire Corley said: "We left work as usual and it was fine, then we came in on Tuesday and it had all changed. We couldn't believe it. I have no idea who did it, people though we had done it for Christmas.

"Kidzade directors Andrew and Rachel David are away in Bulgaria at the moment, so we have taken a photo to show them. We aren't sure what will happen to it now".

Paignton's popular Milk Bottle building, at the corner of Cecil Road, is one of Torbay's most iconic spots.

The Milk Bottle used to be the main dairy serving most of Paignton.

The bottle was set fire to in 1997 and a flame proof replacement was made.

So, a fireproof replacement was constructed in 1997 after it was burnt yes? (It wasn't made clear in the article)

More funny little stories in the Herald to divert your attention away from the crime in the drug gangland that is Torquay.

Shouldn't Devons Police Commissioner Tony Hogg be looking into the Pigs head outside Mc Donalds incident? After all it is relative!

Art, graffitti, vandalism, advertisement ? Its all of them and it cause a bit of a local stir. I think its quite well executed, but not keen on the chosen image of Coca-Cola. An American global corporation that promotes this beverage as aspirational to the world whilst it causes obesity to a proportion of their customers, consumes precious water resources of the developing world. Will be happy for the artist to put it back to a nice pint of semi-skimmed as soon as possible.

Clearly neither acts are art. Unless a drunk urinating in the street or dropping an empty beer bottle in the street could also claim these acts as art. Just because someone says it's art (usually the attention seeker involved) doesn't make it art. And just because a half educated reporter reports it as art doesn't make it art. Wake up and start thinking for yourselves, stop just believing everything you are told.

CapinBob - I don't like graffiti or vandalism myself and wouldn't appreciate someone doing such a thing. However, your argument is now invalid and not respected because you are name calling people. Vandalism or not, just because Amber_Forrest thought it was creative, DOES NOT make her an idiot.
