A woman was treated for facial injuries and taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital after the vehicle she was in hit a tree in Teignmouth and caught fire on Saturday.

The incident happened on the B3192 Ashcombe, Teignmouth, at noon. Two fire engines from the town attended the scene and were there for an hour.

"The car, which we believe was a Toyota, was well alight by the time we arrived," said Mark Holland, watch commander at Teignmouth Fire station."We had to use two hose reels and two sets of breath apparatus as well as a foam jet. We laid a blanket of foam to stop the petrol igniting."

The road was closed for around three hours until the vehicle was recovered.Police confirmed a grey Toyota Corolla, registered to Exeter, was involved in the RTC."The female driver sustained injuries which are not thought to be life threatening," said a police spokesman.
