Drivers in Plympton had a shock today as police and other agencies were out in force on one of the town's busiest routes.

Operation Juggler targeted disqualified drivers, drivers with no insurance, and other motoring offences and crime, said police.

An ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognistion) stop site were used to conduct vehicle checks along with partner agencies including Trading Standards, VOSA, HM Customs & Revenue, the MoD and Plymouth City Council waste licensing officers.

Police conducted the road traffic operation along Vicarage Road and Plymouth Road from 9am.

A spokeswoman for the police said: "Operation Juggler is an initiative to reduce, detect crime and protect vulnerable people by targeting rogue traders.

"A similar operation was run previously resulting in a number of positive outcomes and an increase of intelligence shared between police and other agencies."

The operation ended at noon.

These sad cases were at it again in Plymstock today, I saw one of them 'chasing' a pensioner on blue lights. The police drivers face was transfixed in an awful leer, like a cat after a mouse. I bet the poor old guy papped his pants. Still, the council needs cash and these guys are happy to go out and get it no matter what the cost to those they 'serve'!!

I'm pretty sure that Nubnub was being sarcastic. The world needs fonts for sarcasm and irony, it'd make things much easier.

No Nubnub, what we need is a more well targeted actions like these. Now only for our judges to follow suit and make these offences carry such a pricetag that driving without insurance or MOT becomes too expensive for these morons. You must be one of those people that is either quite happy to pay an additional 60 quid a year on your insurances to cover for those who don't or you don't have insurance yourself. And while they are having the speedguns out, please go and stand at the roadworks on the Marsh Mills fly-over. You can easily collect your entire yearly budget in an afternoon there!!

what we need is fingermen on every street corner to stop everyone and do checks and average speed cameras and cctv and black boxes in are cars followed by more traffic calming and toll roads and more parking restrictions and checkpoints at the road into every town centre where the fingermen can check your papers that should stamp out all crime

I concour with the comments asking for more regular operations on traffics stops like this one. Once again if you have something to hide then simples don't drive ! All for safer roads where the legal ones can drive with out fear. I have said many times stop checks at the Tamar Bridge. I would be happy to be delayed if it meant illegal cars are taken off the road !

Driving are car with no insurance, no M.O.T.,no road tax or when banned from doing so is a crime, so they deal with it like this. If they drive illegally, they may well be on their way to commit another crime. People who drive with all the correct documents etc. have no need to worry about this do they.

While this rubbish was going on, your house was being ransacked. If the Police applied as much energy catching crooks as they do enforcing minor traffic offences, the country would be crime free!
