A woman in her 50s has died after the motorcycle she was riding collided with a car on the A30 in East Devon.

Police, paramedics and the Devon Air Ambulance were called to the junction between the A30 and the A303 at Upottery, Honiton, at 1:40pm yesterday.

A Triumph motorcycle and a silver Ford Fiesta collided leaving the female motorcyclist severely injured.

Police say the 53-year-old died at the scene.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area as traffic became extremely heavy with long delays.

The cause of the accident is being investigated although it is believed the motorcyclist may have driven into the back of stationary traffic.
