Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc’s baking-inspired quips have landed them a nomination for best Female TV Comic at this year’s British Comedy Awards.

The Great British Bake Off presenters, who entertain viewers with their gags while attempting to help contestants get through the struggle of making everything from a Charlotte royale to a trifle, are jointly in the running for their performance fronting the hit BBC2 show.

Perkins has a home in Penzance.

The pair’s rivals in the same category include funnywoman Miranda Hart, for her appearance on Room 101 in which she wanted to consign her breasts to oblivion.

Sarah Millican, for her own TV show The Sarah Millican Television Programme, and Nina Conti, for Live At The Apollo, are also up for the same gong.

The Last Leg and its host Adam Hills, who was born without a right foot and wears a prosthesis, has three nominations – for Comedy Entertainment Programme, Entertainment Personality and Breakthrough Artist.

The Last Leg, which is co-presented by Devon comedian Josh Widdicombe, is up against Ant And Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, The Graham Norton Show and Alan Carr Chatty Man for Comedy Entertainment Programme.

NHS sitcom Getting On is also up for three awards, for Best Sitcom and nods for its stars Vicki Pepperdine and Jo Brand for TV Comedy Actress.

Brand and Pepperdine are up against Miranda Hart, for self-titled sitcom Miranda, and Zawe Ashton, for Fresh Meat, in the TV Comedy Actress category.

The awards ceremony, hosted by Jonathan Ross, sees children’s show Horrible Histories in the running for Best Sketch Show, up against Harry & Paul, It’s Kevin and Psychobitches.

David Mitchell (Peep Show), Greg Davies (Cuckoo), Jack Whitehall (Fresh Meat) and Kevin Eldon (It’s Kevin) are nominated for Best TV Comedy Actor.

The British Comedy Awards will be broadcast live on Channel 4 at 9pm on December 12.
