Man stuck on car in flooded road rescued

Fire crews used boats to rescue a man who became trapped on the roof of his car after it was stranded in a flooded road in Somerset. A specialist rescue vehicle, as well as two fire engines from Bridgwater and a rescue tender from Taunton were sent to the scene, at Burrowbridge at 4.30am yesterday. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said people had ignored warnings. A spokesman said "more substantial" road closures had been put in place as people had been continuing to drive through road closure signs that were already present.
