A man has been released on bail after the body of a 21-year-old man was found at a block of flats.

Police and paramedics were called to an address at Ipswich Close, Whitleigh, in Plymouth, where the body of a local man was found in a fourth floor flat.

Detectives have now launched an investigation into the death, which was discovered by emergency services at about 5pm on Sunday.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Trust said: “We got a call from a mobile at 4.47pm.

We sent two ambulances to the address but did not convey the patient to hospital.”

The scene has now been cordoned off and a security firm has been hired to guard the area.

A post-mortem examination was due to be carried out today.

Officers said the man’s next of kin had been informed of his death but that he had not yet been formally identified.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said they believed the man may also have been assaulted some days before his death.

The man, who was arrested yesterday, was held in custody last night at Charles Cross police station on suspicion of murder and today released on police bail pending further enquiries.
