A man and a woman were arrested in Ilfracombe in the early hours of Sunday for allegedly threatening nightclub staff with a fake gun.
Police officers were sent to The Club in the High Street at 12.45am following reports of a man threatening staff with an imitation pistol from a window opposite the venue.
The High Street was cordoned off and a man and a woman were arrested.
A 29-year-old local man has been charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to threaten violence and will appear at North Devon Magistrates’ Court today.
A 22-year-old woman has been charged with a public order offence and bailed with condition to appear in court on January 10.
Inspector Roger Bartlett said: “This was a busy time on a Saturday night in Ilfracombe town centre with a lot of people out looking to enjoy themselves.
“We appreciate the patience of members of the public who were inconvenienced by the road closure, but our priority had to be everyone’s safety.
“We are pleased that this matter was brought to a successful conclusion on the night without anyone being harmed.”
