Lostwithiel A&C Market
Get 2013 off to a good start by visiting the Antiques and Collectors' Market in Lostwithiel.
More than 25 dealers will be offering an eclectic mix – from jewellery and glass, to plated ware, and treen.
The Bookmaid's stand has a large display of Cornish volumes including Cyrus Redding's Cornwall.
Published in 1842 as part of the England in the Nineteenth Century series, this provides a detailed picture of the county at that time with illustrations and a map of the county. This scarce volume is priced at £45.
For lovers of Daphne du Maurier there is a copy of Classics of the Macabre containing six dramatic short stories. Lavishly illustrated by Michael Foreman, this book was published in 1987 to commemorate du Maurier's 80th birthday and is available for £17.50.
Other Cornish volumes on the stand include a copy of Secret Shrines signed by the author, Paul Broadhurst. This privately published book is number 424 of a limited run of 500 copies.
It charts the holy wells of Cornwall both in photographs and sketches and is priced at £60. An ideal purchase for Cornish and other volumes is the narrow floorstanding oak bookcase, priced at £48.
Another useful item is the Edwardian oak stick stand with attractive fret cut sides (£50).
When one thinks of Cornish copper one immediately thinks of Newlyn, but works from lesser known craftsmen are offered for sale on Bygones and Gonebys stand.
Here you will find works by J F Pool (formerly the Cornish Shovel Company) and the Eustace brothers of Hayle – an assortment of copperwork with Arts and Crafts designs, whilst other have a Cornish theme, depicting engine houses and the Cornish coat of arms. Prices from £25 to £75.
For those interested in pub memorabilia the same stand is offering an original Gilroy Guinness poster in the original frame.
Entitled A Sane Lunch Party the poster depicts the Mad Hatter and other characters from Alice in Wonderland. This fine example is available for £380.
Lostwithiel Antiques and Collectors' Market is held on Tuesday, January 1, at Lostwithiel Community Centre, from 11am to 3pm. Sat-nav: PL22 OHE.
