Recently, MrMcLaren was appointed an Honorary Speaker for the charity which supportsvisiting seafarers in over 258 ports around the world. As a volunteerambassador, Mac will be visiting churches, groups and youth clubs to give talksabout the importance of shipping to the UK and how the Mission supports crewsfacing piracy, isolation, loneliness and abandonment.
"Beforeretiring, I worked as a marine engineer on many different types of vessels,from large commercial ships to trawlers and this has given me a deep understandingand appreciation for the hard work seafarers do," said Mac on his appointment."Working at sea is one of the most dangerous occupations in the world and assomeone who has lost a grandfather and three uncles to the deep I am well awareof the difficulties the 1.3 million seafarers face.
