A STRETCH of the A38 westbound was closed this morning after a car spun out of control.

The driver of the silver BMW M5, which was heading west on the A38 near the Manadon roundabout, told police he hit oil on the road and the car spun around into the grass verge.

Paramedics were called to the location, but fortunately the driver was uninjured. However, the car suffered extensive damage, which included having the rear passenger wheel ripped from the axle.

The inside lane of the A38 was blocked off for some time while police had the car recovered and examined the scene.

Fire crews and Highways Agency staff assisted in the clear up of debris and the lane was opened a few hours later.

Police would like to hear from any witnesses to the incident, which took place at just after 11.30am today.

If you can assist, contact police on 101 quoting police log number 231 of 16/1/2014.

So much spite/jealousy around BMW's what's that about? Should it not just be about the driver? Unlucky, silly or otherwise.....mmmmm

inthenkow13 maybe you should get your facts straight before making stupid comments...the new gen m5 has switchable maps in the vehicle settings so you can choose form 400bhp upwards....hence my post stating 400bhp+.maybe read posts properly and take time to digest what they say before slagging people off.and as for pongo brasher??? get a life.

BMW the ultimate driving machine? Obviously not if its the only car spinning out of control whilst sticking to the speed limit and being driven correctly by an enthusiast!!!!

@Urbandriver I imagine the police would look at things like call logs with unexplained crashes due to the increase of idiots over the years using mobiles & getting distracted.

b_mused clearly has about as much of grasp on how to use the word "proportion" as some of the other posters here have of not judging without all the facts.

Intheknow Lol. You doubt he was speeding, I doubt there was oil on the road. No other car seems to have come off the road. Its just that time of year when weather conditions means BMWs start falling off the road.
