TORBAY inshore lifeboat spent two hours at sea in the early hours of Saturday following reports of a red flare.

The boat was launched just after 1.45am with Darryll Farley at the helm.

They searched between Roundham Head and Princess Pier, Torquay, after reports of a possible flare observed from Broadsands in a line towards Princess Pier.

Later the crew investigated the Hollicombe area in depth and detected activity on the beach. HMCoastgurd found an empty fireworks box on the   beach. The search was terminated and the lifeboat returned to station.
