Kitesurfer, aged 63, airlifted to hospital after crashing into rocks at Saunton Sands

A 63-year-old kite surfer was airlifted to hospital yesterday after crashing into rocks in strong winds. Swansea Coastguards said they were "inundated" with 999 calls when the incident happened at Saunton Sands, on the North Devon coast, shortly before 3.30pm. The search and rescue helicopter from RMB Chivenor was scrambled to airlift the man to hospital in nearby Barnstaple. A coastguard spokesman said the man had suffered cuts and bruises in the accident.
