Jane Austen frocks in focus

The linen shirt which Hollywood star Colin Firth tore off during the celebrated BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice – much to the delight of many female television viewers – is among a stunning selection of costumes now on show in the Westcountry.

Period garments worn by Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Alan Rickman and Gwyneth Paltrow can also be seen at the Creative Stitches and Hobbycrafts Show, at Westpoint, near Exeter. Jane Bolsover, costume display organiser, said: "Up close you can really see the detail in the design – it is just a shame Mr Darcy isn't in the white shirt."
