FIRE investigators were this morning looking into the cause of a blaze in Ivybridge early today.

The alarm was raised just after 6am at Laundry Solutions in Costly Street.

Fire crews from Ivybridge and Plympton were sent to the scene after receiving a call from the police saying one of their units had seen smoke coming from a window and the windows themselves were hot to touch.

The fire was on the ground floor of the two-storey building. It was extinguished using two sets of breathing apparatus, one hosereel jet and a thermal image camera.

The ground floor was severely damaged by fire and smoke, with the first floor sustaining light smoke damage.

Two female occupants of the building were evacuated, uninjured, before the fire crews arrived.
