Despite the cold, thousands turned out to watch Ilfracombe's traditional lighting of the Lights last night.
Crowds lined the roads in the town centre as the children from Ilfracombe Junior School carried their specially-made lanterns from Oxford Grove through the High Street to the War Memorial. The annual children's procession included a special guest appearance from Santa himself.
The RNLI's mascot Stormy Sam had the honour of officially switching on the Christmas lights and evening was rounded off with a lively firework display with shops open for late night trading.
Angela Turner watched the parade with her son, Luke. She said: "It's wonderful to see so many people out tonight. Verity has hogged the limelight a bit recently and what with the Party on the Pier last Friday, I wondered if many would come tonight, but as you can see the High Street is packed and the atmosphere is great."
The festivities are set to continue with a packed day and night of events and activities along Ilfracombe's Harbour this Saturday (Dec 1).
