SANDRA BULLOCK has revealed how she had to overcome her fear of flying to star in space thriller Gravity.
The Proposal actress admitted she chose to do Alfonso Cuaron’s film with good friend GEORGE CLOONEY so she could get over her aerophobia.
“I’m definitely afraid of flying. It’s one of my greatest fears so I thought it was maybe time to just get over that fear,” she said at the Toronto International Film Festival.
“To be out of your comfort zone, I learnt on this, just unlocks things that scare you, frustrate you, make you so insecure but it also forces you to dig very deep. When this came along, it scared me on every single level, primarily because it was going to be shot in the ‘vomit comet’ – a plane that plummets out of the sky to achieve weightlessness. And I’m grateful we didn’t do it that way. I loved it – but not when we were doing it.”
The film was partly shot in Pinewood and Shepperton Studios.
*JOHN TRAVOLTA has revealed that ROBERT DE NIRO approved of him playing Mob boss John Gotti in an upcoming biopic.
The Pulp Fiction star is set to portray John Gotti Senior, the head of the Gambino crime family, in Joe Johnston’s Gotti: In The Shadow Of My Father, which will start shooting in 2014. He admitted that he never asked Robert – who he acts alongside in Killing Season – for advice on playing a gangster.
“I don’t think I need any tips, I’ve played enough gangsters in the past 30 years. Starting with Pulp Fiction, that was one of the definitive gangsters,” said the Oscar-nominated actor.
“Get Shorty, Elmore Leonard, Face/Off and The Punisher, these are all gangsters I’ve played before but John Gotti is different because he was the godfather of reality. He is a modern gangster figure, so we never got into discussion other than he thought it was a good idea that I should play it.”
John added: “John Gotti Sr is the ultimate glamorous gangster. I’ve been waiting to do that for a while.”
*EMMA THOMPSON has revealed how gleefully she tapped into her inner criminal when she did her own stunts in her latest film.
The Love Actually actress stars opposite PIERCE BROSNAN in Love Punch, about a divorced couple who lose their retirement fund and reunite to steal it back.
Speaking about her stunt driving in the flick, Emma said: “I told them that I’ve played good women in frocks for too long, I need to get into a car, I need to get some tattoos for crying out loud. It’s time to live, it’s time to be a criminal, that’s what I want.”
However, she’s not convinced she could commit the perfect crime.
“I think I could be a criminal, but a master one? I’m not so sure.
“I think I would need someone else to do the master bit, I would need my own Moriarty because I would do it then blurt it on the Tube.”
*SIMON COWELL has joked that he would like to pay someone to get up in the night with his new baby, revealing he was raised by nannies himself.
The TV mogul is set to become a father for the first time with New York socialite, Lauren Silverman, and has revealed that he is planning to be a hands-on dad, reported the Daily Mail.
But asked about getting up in the night during a chat on TV show Jimmy Kimmel Live, he said: “Can’t you just pay someone to do that?
“I will probably do it once or twice.”
Simon, whose mum Julie used to be a ballet dancer, went on: “I was brought up by nannies. I didn’t recognise my mum until I was about three or four.”
*GWYNETH PALTROW has shared a video of herself locking lips with STELLA MCCARTNEY.
The Oscar-winning actress posted the video – a clip from a celebrity-filled garden party she threw in the Hamptons – along with a gushing tribute to the British fashion designer to celebrate their new collection together.
Saying Stella is “like a sister”, Gwyneth wrote on her website Goop that she was lucky to have her.
She said: “Someone who really sees you. Who is as honest with you as they are loving. Who shares a similar world view, who has similar values. Who is a bit of a life raft when you live in a country that you lovingly adopt, but is not your own. Who also happens to be hilarious and a bit naughty and is constantly trying to get the balance of everything right, just like you are.”
