A holiday lettings agency has grown its portfolio of self-catering holiday properties and increased its workforce after acquiring three Cornish competitors.

Classic Cottages, which was founded in 1977 by Tony and Clare Tregoning, now operates as a group with four individual lettings agencies Classic Cottages, Aspects Holidays, Boutique Retreats and Classic Glamping.

In 2011, Classic Cottages began its expansion investing in Boutique Retreats, a specialist agency based in St Agnes.

In 2012, the company acquired Aspects Holidays, which specialises in properties in St Ives and the West of Cornwall.

Last year, the Penzance-based West Cornwall Cottage Holidays was also acquired by the group, and is now run under the Aspects Holidays brand.

Bringing these three agencies into the group has added a further 500 properties to Classic Cottages’ existing portfolio of 750 holiday homes in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset, and the company has gone from having 39 staff to employing a total of 60 across the group - a 50% increase in staff numbers.

Classic Cottages has also created a separate agency to manage a selection of luxury glamping sites across the South West, which launched in 2013 as Classic Glamping.

Chairman of Classic Cottages Simon Tregoning said: “Over the past three years we have grown the business significantly and we are now in the position to say that we are the South West’s true holiday lettings experts.

“Each of the individual agencies markets a specific type of property which is why they have retained their brands rather than just becoming part of Classic Cottages, but running as a group we are collectively more efficient and in a better position to continue to expand.

“It has also allowed us to create another highly skilled job at our head office in Helston for someone with exceptional traditional and digital marketing skills who can help the group to continue to be leaders within the holiday lettings industry.”
