Tongues are wagging furiously in Honiton after a woman with striking resemblance to Hollywood superstar Helen Mirren was spotted in the Boston Tea Party yesterday morning.
The actress, or a look-a-like, wearing a smart-casual outfit and accompanied by a gentleman of a similar age, ordered pancakes and fruit compote and a latte.
A regular then reportedly heard The Queen actress talking about the Baftas awards ceremony the night before.
James Arnold, shop manager who has worked there for around three and a half years, said he couldn’t be certain the glamorous looking customer was the star, but she looked very much like the actress.
Over the last few years the café has had a number of famous customers including jazz legend Jools Holland, a Cash in the Attic presenter, Dragon’s Den judges Deborah Meaden and Theo Paphitis and a former president of Zambia who surprised diners with an impromptu go on the piano.
“I am 90 per cent sure it was her,” James said. “I put it on our Facebook page and it’s gone global since.
“The regulars who were in here at the time are convinced it’s her.
“One of our young employees served her but didn’t know who she was so didn’t say anything.
“Then one of our regulars came up to me and said he’d heard her talking about the Baftas.
“I was looking at the CCTV today to work out if it really was her, but it’s a bit too grainy.”
