It all started with an unusual dedication at the beginning of a children's book called Pigs Might Surf and ended with a wedding.
Rory Donald, artist and book illustrator who created the images, was asked by the authors if he'd like to put a dedication in the book.
Rory of Tintagel, North Cornwall, had no hesitation about what he wanted to say and to whom. The dedication was to his girlfriend Cheryl Lucas, and it read: "To Cheryl, will you marry me? Rory x"
The book, written by Olly Miles and Anna Louise, went to print and with one of the 5,000 copies in his hand, Rory went down on one knee at his local pub and popped the question to Cheryl, who accepted.
Rory, 39, said "If she'd said no I would have had to buy every copy of the book!"
The proposal gained national coverage, including a mention on Radio 2's Chris Evans Breakfast show.
On Saturday, Rory tied the knot with his 35-year-old bride at The Millhouse Inn, Trebarwith, Tintagel, where he had proposed.
The groom dressed up as his favourite Roald Dahl character Willy Wonka, sporting a dapper purple overcoat complete with top hat and goggles. Cheryl chose the more traditional white wedding dress, but added her own quirkiness wearing bright purple trainers.
The authors and Rory hope to team up again in the New Year to create a follow-up to the book.
